Reduce food waste with our smart meal preordering service.
At Sky Dining, our mission is to revolutionise in-flight dining while tackling food waste. We believe that by allowing passengers to preorder their meals, we can enhance their travel experience and promote sustainability in the airline industry.
In 2017, it is estimated that the airline industry produced up to 5.7 million tonnes of cabin waste, costing $927 million. With a passenger growth rate currently at 7.6% per year, these cabin quantities could double in the next 10 years.
On average, each passenger produces 1.43kilos of cabin waste, with an average flight producing 352kilos of waste.
IATA research indicates that 23% of cabin waste comprises untouched food and drink
Therefore, last year, the airline industry is estimated to have spent $1 billion on 750,000 tonnes of jet fuel, to transport 1.3 million tonnes of unwanted and untouched food & drink, around the planet!
·A digital platform integrated into airline booking systems where passengers can select their meals before travel. Options would include vegetarian, vegan, halal, gluten-free, and other special dietary needs. Meal descriptions would include a full list of ingredients, to allow passengers to manage any allergies.
·Carbon Credit Integration: Passengers earn carbon credits for each meal they pre-order, based on the reduction in food waste, the carbon footprint of meal production and the sustainability of the meals chosen. These credits can be redeemed for future flight upgrades, charitable donations, or used to offset travel emissions.
Provide airlines with data analytics to track meal consumption, waste reduction, and overall carbon credits generated. This tool helps airlines meet their environmental targets and measure the success of the program.
Passengers who pre-order meals, will be reducing their carbon footprint, by reducing the amount of waste they create, which in turn leads to a reduction in jet fuel.
Each passenger produces on average 1.43kg of waste per flight.
Their carbon credits can be added to a “carbon wallet” and added to a person’s CO2 profile.
